Caring Paws is the independently owned clinic on the Hartland Road corner of Burwood Highway in Vermont South, about five minutes from Wantirna once you are past Dandenong Creek. It is the first call for a dog that comes home from the trail lame.
Getting here from Wantirna
By car, take Mountain Highway to its end at Burwood Highway and turn right. Burwood Highway carries you past Koomba Park, over EastLink and Dandenong Creek, and the clinic is about 2 km further on at the Hartland Road lights, opposite Vermont South Shopping Centre: 4.5 km and about five minutes. The car park is behind the clinic. The fenced dog park at Wantirna Recreation Reserve, on Mountain Highway near Burwood Highway, is on the way.
By bus, the 732 runs along Burwood Highway from Westfield Knox to the Vermont South tram terminus, which is across the highway from the clinic. Check PTV for the stop nearest you and the times.
Parking is free behind the clinic and on the street, and the entrance and the parking are wheelchair accessible.

Your first visit from Wantirna, step by step
- Book online or call
Book online at any hour, or call 03 9968 7771 during opening hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 3pm. First visit? Fill in thenew client formbefore you come and the desk has what it needs. - Arrive
Park behind the clinic, free. There are two entrances, so a dog that reacts to other animals, or a cat that panics, goes straight through to a room; say so when you book. - The consult
$118. Dr Jessica Goh or Dr Angela examines your pet, asks about the trail, the diet and what has changed, and explains what they find in plain words. You leave knowing what happens next. - If more is needed
You see an estimate first. X-ray, ultrasound and blood tests are done at the clinic with results the same day, so a limp or a sore belly is investigated on the day rather than booked in somewhere else. - After the visit
The team calls to check how your pet is going after a procedure. If something changes overnight, the clinic number reaches a vet nurse at no charge, any hour, who tells you whether it can wait until morning or which emergency hospital to drive to.

A few things worth knowing from Wantirna
How far is Caring Paws from Wantirna?
About 4.5 km and five minutes by car: Mountain Highway to Burwood Highway, turn right, over EastLink and Dandenong Creek, and the clinic is on the Hartland Road corner opposite Vermont South Shopping Centre, with free parking behind it. The 732 bus along Burwood Highway ends at the tram terminus across the highway.
Wantirna has two vets closer. Why cross the creek?
The drive is five minutes, and the reasons in the clinic's Google reviews are practical: every price is published, an estimate comes before any procedure, imaging and blood tests are done on site the same day, and the clinic number reaches a vet nurse after hours at no charge. For a dog that is stiff or recovering from surgery, certified canine rehabilitation is done at the clinic rather than by referral.
My dog was bitten by a snake on the trail. What do I do?
Keep your dog calm and still, carry them rather than walking them, do not try to catch the snake, and ring 03 9968 7771 as you go. In opening hours the team tells you whether to come straight in; when the clinic is closed the same number reaches a vet nurse who names the nearest emergency hospital to you. Weakness or a collapse can be followed by an apparent recovery, so go even if your dog picks up.
Where do I go after hours from Wantirna?
Call the clinic number, 03 9968 7771, and follow the prompts. A vet nurse answers at no charge, client or not, and works through what you are seeing. If your pet needs to be seen tonight, the nurse names the emergency hospital nearest to Wantirna; if it can wait, you get advice for the night and the clinic calls in the morning to book the follow-up.
My dog is limping after a run. Can you X-ray today?
Call 03 9968 7771 and the team fits urgent cases into the day where they can. X-ray and ultrasound are at the clinic, so if imaging is needed it is done during the same visit, most often with your dog awake or lightly sedated, and the images are explained to you on the day. An estimate comes first, and if the finding needs more than rest, the rehabilitation plan is made at the clinic.
Do you do rehabilitation for a sporting or an older dog?
Yes. Dr Jessica Goh is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. A rehabilitation appointment assesses movement, joint range, muscle mass and posture, and the plan combines pain relief with laser therapy, pulsed electromagnetic therapy, targeted exercises and manual therapy, whether the goal is recovery after surgery or long-term mobility. The rehabilitation page explains each option.
