Why Burwood East pet owners come here

Urgent cases are triaged on arrival

If your dog is vomiting or your cat has stopped eating, call 03 9968 7771 and the team will fit urgent cases into the day where they can. If you cannot call, walk in during opening hours and your pet is triaged as soon as you arrive, so the sickest animal is seen first. One owner wrote in June 2026: "As I considered the matter urgent, I rang a new vet who was close by. I am so glad I did."

The price is on the website before you book

An estimate comes before any procedure, and if the plan changes during treatment you get a call before anything more is done. In August 2026 an owner described the clinic as "very upfront with costs and prompt communication with updates or concerns".

Bloods, cytology and X-ray under one roof

Blood tests, skin and ear cytology, X-ray and ultrasound are all done at the clinic, with results the same day, so a skin problem or a limp does not mean a referral appointment somewhere else. An owner wrote in August 2026 that "cytology and consult happened under the one roof which was a lovely change from other large vet chains".

What a visit costs

Pets in Burwood East

If you adopted from the RSPCA shelter on Burwood Highway, bring the adoption paperwork to the first visit so the vaccination and microchip records carry across. The first visit then covers whatever is still due, from the rest of the vaccination course to parasite cover and feeding, with time for the questions you wrote down.

Dogs from Burwood East run off-lead at Ballyshanassy Park, which is on Whitehorse Council's off-lead list, and on the off-lead side of East Burwood Reserve; from spring, check paws and ears for grass seeds after a run.

Cats are seen in their own consult room, away from the dogs. One owner wrote in July 2026 that "when I came in for a cat checkup the entire process was super easy".

Questions from Burwood East pet owners

  • How far is Caring Paws from Burwood East?

About 3.1 km east along Burwood Highway, four minutes by car in normal traffic, with no turns until the Hartland Road lights opposite Vermont South Shopping Centre. Parking is behind the clinic. The 75 tram from any Burwood Highway stop ends opposite the clinic, about 13 minutes from Blackburn Road.

  • Can I get to the clinic by tram?

Yes. Route 75 runs along Burwood Highway through Burwood East and terminates at Vermont South Shopping Centre, across the highway from the clinic. Board at Springvale Road, Lakeside Drive, Sevenoaks Road, Blackburn Road or Keats Street, ride to the last stop and cross at the lights. Buses 732, 736 and 742 also stop at the terminus.

  • Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Book ahead for routine care such as vaccinations and check-ups. For something urgent, call 03 9968 7771 first so the team can prepare; if you cannot call, walk in during opening hours and your pet is triaged on arrival. The clinic is open until 7pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and until 3pm Saturday.

  • There are vets closer to me in Burwood East. Why drive to Vermont South?

The drive is four minutes, so the question is what changes at the end of it. Owners name three things in their Google reviews: the cost is explained before anything happens, the consult is not rushed, and tests such as bloods, cytology and X-ray happen on site the same day. If being able to walk in matters to you, the clinic triages walk-ins during opening hours.

  • Where do I go for an after-hours emergency from Burwood East?

The clinic number works after hours too: 03 9968 7771. Follow the prompts and a vet nurse takes the call at no charge, client or not, and talks through what you are seeing. A pet that needs to be seen tonight is sent to the nearest emergency hospital by name; a pet that can wait gets advice for the night, and the clinic books the follow-up when it opens.

  • Do cats get a separate room?

Yes. The clinic has separate cat and dog consult rooms and separate wards, so a cat is examined away from the dogs and recovers away from them too. There are also privacy areas for animals that need the room to themselves, and two entrances. Tell the team when you book if your cat panics in carriers or waiting rooms, and you go straight through.
